A scuba wetsuit is the second skin of a diver and it is essential that you know how to take care of it.

The best scuba wetsuit is usually made of neoprene material that insulates a diver against the cold waters deep down. They are designed to allow plenty of shoulder and knee movement for maximum manoeuvrability, and are available in a range of thicknesses.

But do know how to take care of your so called second skin?

Here are the steps in taking care of it!

    1.Rinse.

After you have finished diving immediately rinse your wetsuit inside and out with fresh water. As the salt water can cause the neoprene to lose its flexibility and a non-rinsed wetsuit smells bad.

    2.Soak.

Once you are done rinsing your wetsuit, soak it with a lukewarm water with a little bit of baking soda or a wetsuit shampoo. You can also use a mild detergent to keep off the bad odor in sticking to the neoprene. Soak it for at least 30 minutes and after it turn the suit inside out and soak it for another 30 minutes. Once done soaking rinse it again with fresh water.

    3.Inspect.

Check and look for any gouges or tears along the seams of your wetsuit.

    4.Hang.

When hanging your wetsuit use a flat hanger or a plastic hanger. But, do not use a thin wire hanger as the metal can cause the neoprene to degrade. Hang the wetsuit out of the direct sunlight or under a shade. If you hang it under the direct glare of sunlight it may crack the neoprene.

    5.Store.

Let the wetsuit dry thoroughly before you store it or else it would have a bad odor. Just hang it loosely and do not fold it or shove it in a drawer. The wetsuit might have creases if you have done that. Let it just hang loosely and store it in a plastic bag.

Lastly, please never ever wash your wetsuit in a washing machine!

So there you go. Taking care of your scuba wetsuit is easy if you will just follow the above-mentioned steps.

This is a basic know-how every diver should have.
